Marita Conlon McKenna visited 5th and 6th Class on Wednesday and we were delighted to listen to her life story. She is an excellent story teller and we were all interested to hear about her background and how this influenced some of the books that she has written. We were particularly interested in 'A Girl called Blue' as we had read that in 5th Class. Marita told us that she was adopted and that she often wondered what her life might have been like if her parents hadn't chosen her. She was also a good friend of a lady called Christine Buckley who had spent her childhood in Goldenbridge Orphanage in Inchicore. Christine's experiences there influenced some of the incidents that Marita wrote about in Blue. Marita was really impressed by the thoughtful questions posed by the girls and thoroughly enjoyed her morning with us.
